Guided trips through the Smokies Question: A group of six, 35-50 years of age in range, would like any info about organized/guided tours in the Smoky Mountain Range for early September 1997. Hiking to a summit is desired. The skill level ranges from moderate to experienced. Are there any American outfitters that would handle this domestic hike? Diane Moltaji Glenview, IL Gvcaller@aol.com Adventure Adviser: The Sierra Club offers a slew of backpacking and base-camp hiking trips throughout the country, with a handful slated for the Smokies this spring, summer, and fall. Sign on to one of their base-camp trips and you’ll be spared the ordeal of lugging your own pack; instead, staying at comfortable lodges and heading out to do 8- to 11-mile day hikes on nearby trails. The pace is fairly relaxed and the price reasonable, in the ballpark of $480 for a six-day trip. For trip details and dates, call Sierra Club Outings at 415-923-5630. |
