The Trip-Finder, January 1998 Nepal Rafting and Kayaking the Tamur Kosi The Route: A 75-mile whitewater descent of a newly opened river festooned with Class III and IV rapids, with five of the world’s ten highest peaks as a backdrop. The trip lasts 13 days. When to go: November Difficulty: Strenuous Travel advisory: Don’t neglect your lower-body conditioning; hiking to the put-in requires a tough four-day trek to above 8,000 feet. High/low points: You’ll be invulnerable to misfortune because your raft has been doused with ceremonial chicken blood by your Nepalese guides. Negotiating 50 rapids in less than four hours on day three of your descent. Copyright 1998, Outside magazine |
