The Trip-Finder, January 1998 Quebec Hut-to-Hut Skiing in the Charlevoix Mountains The Route: Start north of Baie-St.-Paul and ski 62 miles in seven days through hilly fir and birch forest. Along the way, cross the River of Flies and the River of Whirlpools. Overnight in cozy wood-heated cabins. When to go: February to March Difficulty: Moderate to strenuous Travel advisory: Although snowmobiles carry all the gear from cabin to cabin, you’ll never see their tracks; the noisy, smelly machines take an entirely different route. High/low points: Skiing to the rim of the Malbaie River Gorge to see the peaks of “the Switzerland of Quebec.” Being assured by your guide that the peaks of “the Switzerland of Quebec” are out there somewhere in the fog.
