X-country skiing in British Columbia By Amy Marr Question: I’m looking for a place in western Canada to spend a week this winter x-country skiing, maybe a smaller resort or remote lodge. Any ideas? Anne Jeffery Chugiak, Alaska Adventure Adviser: Though it might be further east then you want to go, I suggest making the trek to Silver Star Mountain Resort (250-542-0224; reservations, 800-663-4431), in Vernon. Revered as British Columbia’s nordic skiing capital, this Euro-feeling resort is the training site of Canada’s national team. The mountain itself boasts 22 miles of nordic trails, with another 30+ miles of cross-country skiing bliss in the nearby Sovereign Lake Provincial. For accommodations, try the fancy but comfortable Delta Silver Star Club Resort (800-610-0805). If that’s too posh, they might be able to recommend something a bit more low-key. |
