She’s a former editor at Climbing and Rock and Ice magazines, has written for cnn.com, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal, among others, and wrote the biography Second Ascent. A graduate of Middlebury College and the Columbia School of Journalism, she is a former ski instructor and competitive climber and guide, and was the first woman president of the American Alpine Club. She received the AAC Literary Award.
