Colorado Is Nearly Drought-Free
For the first time in six years
This is the first time since 2009 that Colorado has had so little drought.
Colorado is nearly drought-free, with only 2 percent of the state still classified as abnormally dry, according to a federal drought report released Thursday.
The percentage of states classified as abnormally dry is down from 26 percent last week and 75 percent three months ago. This is the first time since 2009 that Colorado has had so little drought.
This decrease in drought—especially in the Western Slope and southeastern counties—is due to recent rainfall.
“They just had a little more thunderstorm activity in the last two weeks than they’ve had,” Eric Thaler, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Boulder, told the Denver Post.
