American skiers Ted Ligety and Lindsey Vonn won giant slalom titles this weekend in the first race of the 2011-2012 World Cup ski season in Austria. Ligety is the defending World Cup giant slalom champion but says he is aiming for an overall World Cup victory. The win is Vonn’s first World Cup GS title. The American team was familiar with the course after having lived and trained on-site at the Sölden ski area for two weeks.
