Vail Resorts Inc. will buy California’s Kirkwood Mountain Resort for $18 million, according to Kirkwood owner Charles Cobb. Vail already owns Heavenly and Northstar in the Lake Tahoe region, and manages Breckenridge, Keystone, Beaver Creek, and Vail, in Colorado. “To buy [Kirkwood] and change it doesn’t make sense,” said Vail Resorts co-president Blaise Carrig. “We’re hoping all the employees stay on board and we carry on what they do.” Skiers and riders with Epic passes, which are good at all Vail Resorts mountains, will be able to ski at Kirkwood immediately.
