For many, a trip to the waterpark can be a relaxing summertime activity. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case at the Yulong Shuiyun Water Amusement Park in Longjing, China, on Tuesday.
Dozens of swimmers were hurt after a wave pool malfunctioned and sent a much-larger-than-normal wall of water through a crowd of people.
According to the South China Morning Post, more than 40 people were injured in the wipeout, some sustaining broken ribs. The SCMP reports that the malfunction was attributed to a “power cut that damaged electronic equipment in the tsunami pool control room, which led to the waves in the tsunami pool becoming too big and injuring people,” citing a local government announcement.
