Our favorite pieces of gear for Valentine’s Day.
For those of you struggling to find the perfect present for your love, here are 12 ideas from the women of Outside.
Valentine’s Day cliche: sexy lingerie. Valentine’s Day upgrade: an actually useful sports bra. I don't particularly like buying sports bras—the good ones are surprisingly expensive and it's all too easy to keep making do with the saggy ones that already live in my closet. Which is why I’m nudging my fiancé to get me this one from Prana, with its high-performance materials and decent support. Hey, I’d even call it sexy! —Axie Navas, executive editor
I don’t think you can go wrong with this cozy wool long underwear getup from Kari Traa. The Norwegian brand, founded by Olympic freeskier Kari Traa, inspires girls to, in Traa’s words, Dare to Play. But basically, these long johns are hygge in a box. —Elizabeth Hightower, features editor
I don’t know of an adventure where I couldn’t use a huge, lightweight Turkish Towel. It’s got tons of uses from the beach, to river trips, or as an outdoor tablecloth. —E.H.
I recently flew to Australia, and the man in the seat next to me snored loudly for almost the entire 14-hour flight. I didn’t sleep a wink as a result. I will never take an overnight flight without noise-canceling headphones again. —Mary Turner, deputy editor
This is the real deal if you’re looking for a warm down puffy. I realized at the beginning of this winter that I had somehow ended up with half a dozen highly-rated, top-of-the-line mid layers in my closet but nothing heavy enough to wear on its own and keep me warm in sub-freezing temps. I pretended I liked wearing a bunch of layers every day, but thank goodness my boyfriend saw through that and gave me this Arc’teryx jacket. If there’s a woman in your life in a similar predicament right now, she’ll be just as grateful. —Svati Narula, assistant social media editor
This top is so comfortable that I would wear it every day if I thought I could get away with it. People notice it, though, and compliment me on it—probably because of the sweetheart neckline, which looks flattering on everybody. So obviously I need to acquire more in different colors. —S.N.
Harnesses with super-thin leg loops tend to cut into my thighs, which makes for uncomfortable (and unflattering!) climbing. The Luna comes with wide loops that are cushy with extra padding, which is why it’s number-one on my wishlist this V-day. —Abigail Wise, online managing editor
Skiing is not my sport of choice, but I am a huge wimp about the cold, so I’m dying for the Kari Traa Rose baselayer set. The long sleeve and pants come in merino wool, so it’s super soft, but still breathable and stink-resistant, meaning I could get away with wearing it on cold morning runs a couple days in a row. Plus, the patterns are super fun. —A.W.
I’m trying to focus on mindful breathing this year, and I’m obsessed with this modern-rustic ceramic and wood diffuser. For V-Day bonus points: pair it with Art of the Root’s Love essential oil blend. —Aleta Burchynski, copy director
Winter in Santa Fe isn’t even very cold, but I’ve been living in these slippers for the past few months. They’re super cozy, and I’d probably wear them to the office if I could get away with it. —Molly Mirhashem, associate editor
