Welcome to The Drop Zone, where we highlight the best new gear in and around the outdoor world.
This week, we have Noah Kahan’s new Northern Attitude collection with L.L. Bean, Black Diamond’s Piton Purple collection, a new sneaker collab from Veja and Finisterre, a stunning NYC Marathon capsule from Bandit Running, and a vintage sportswear-inspired link up between Puma and Madhappy.

Singer/songwriter Noah Kahan, a proud New Englander, has linked up with one of the most famous brands to come out of New England, L.L. Bean, on his own collection for fall. Named for his song “Northern Attitude,” the 10-item collection is the perfect outfit for fall days spent roaming the woods with your pup. Each silhouette is based on an L.L. Bean staple with a Kahan-influenced twist. There’s a hardy Boat and Tote bag made with 24-ounce weight saddle brown canvas, an iconic Field Coat in the same saddle brown, and a few bits to outfit your pup: a leash, a collar, and a Field Coat made specifically for dogs.

Climbing brand Black Diamond has dropped a full collection of gear in a perfect purple color, dubbed Piton Purple by the brand. The lineup includes purple puffers and rain jackets, but also dips into equipment: you can buy a purple carabiner, purple foldable ski poles, and even a set of Helio Carbon 108 skis in Piton Purple. Also part of the collection is a beanie, a flat bill trucker hat, and ski pants. If that’s too much purple, you can pick up a pair of gloves or ski pack, which still utilize the Piton colorway, albeit much more subtly.

French label Veja has teamed up with the hardcore cold water surfers at England’s Finisterre to make a trail shoe designed to take on everything from dawn patrol on England’s western shores to the streets of London and further afield. Really, the unisex shoe, called the Fitz Roy, can go anywhere. The shoe comes in a basalte brown and almond brown color that draws inspiration from outdoor terrain and has a PFAS-free water repellent finish that keeps you dry when the rain sets in.

Bandit has done it again. (Do they ever miss?) The NYC-based brand has pulled out all the stops for its home marathon, which takes place this Sunday, November 2. The exclusive collection is only available at their stores in New York City, but, luckily, the short film they made to show off the collection can be watched anywhere. The capsule has all the bits you need to race, like the brand’s singlets, half-tights, and race tops, but there is plenty of gear for post-run recovery, too. We particularly love the “Run City” NYC tee and NYC hoodie.

If you couldn’t tell, there are a lot of collaborations dropping these days. In some cases, it feels cynical — a quick logo slap in an attempt to grab some attention. (We don’t talk about those here, don’t worry.) Other times, though, the linkup feels just right. Puma x Madhappy is a delightful collab that feels both timeless and undeniably of the current moment. Vintage-inspired tracksuits and sweatsuits blend Puma’s history with Madhappy’s playful-but-not-obnoxious colorways, resulting in a collection we want to rock every day. Don’t need a full outfit? Pick up a sweater, tee, or pair of track shorts that will easily pair with what you already have in your wardrobe.
