Sometimes adventure takes us away from the woods and into the city, but that doesn’t mean you should be any less prepared. The water-resistant Traveler Bag has a compartment for storing a hanging suit jacket, a zippered sleeve for a 17-inch laptop, and a removable shoe bag.

MiniPresso Espresso Maker ($65)

The MiniPresso is hand operated and makes an espresso that our tester described as “thick and smooth.”

Kershaw Scallion ($41)

I’ve had a lot of knives over the years, but the Scallion is the one I reach for the most often. The clip keeps it secure, while the 2.5-inch blade gets most everyday tasks done. The steel stays sharp and the assisted opening is fast (and fun).

Survival Laces ($12)

You’ll never be without warmth when you’re wearing survival laces. Available in a number of lengths, these laces work for everything from footwear to hoodies, and hide flint, tinder, and fishing line inside their paracord exteriors.

MSR Guardian Filter ($350)

The Guardian’s hollow fiber filter removes 99.9 percent of protozoa and bacteria from water. It’s quick, pumping 2.5 liters per minute, and the filter is good for 10,000 liters. It also self cleans, so you don’t have to worry about a decrease in water flow.

Corkcicle USA Collection Canteen ($30)

The limited edition USA Collection canteen celebrates the 2016 Summer Olympics. The 16-ounce, triple-insulated stainless steel design holds heat for up to 12 hours and keeps drinks cold for up to 25 hours. It also has a vacuum sealed lid, a non-slip bottom, and wide mouth for ice cubes.
