In 1905, the Colorado River breached irrigation canals and began flooding into the Salton Sink, a dry lakebed. The Colorado River flowed into the basin for two years, giving rise to California's largest body of water, the Salton Sea. The Useless Sea, from Open Valve Studios, is a search for beauty amidst the deterioration of the lake as increasing salinity and pollution now threaten its fragile ecosystem.
