Looking back to the early days of snowboarding, then called snurfing and popularized by inventor Sherman Poppen in 1965 in Muskegon, Michigan, Made in the Mitten follows the pow-filled history of this wintertime sport. Burton founder, Jake Burton Carpenter coined the term snowboarding and was one of the first to developed the snowboard setup as a riff on Poppen’s stand-up, cult novelty item. His concept—a simple binding system for both feet—went on to legitimize the now popular pastime. This story is brought to you by New Holland Brewing Co.Burton, and filmmaker Zeppelin Zeerip.
