On August 26, Laird Hamilton entertained crowds as Huricane Marie kicked up surf at Malibu Lagoon. Hamilton paddled out and “shot the pier” twice, meaning he rode waves through the gaps in the posts beneath the Malibu Pier. Shooting the pier is no easy task, and several have died trying.
