This clip from the feature documentary SHERPA explores the identity of the Sherpa beyond that of high-altitude workers and elite mountaineers—the Sherpa are an ethnic group and central to their beliefs is that the mountains in the Himalayas are sacred. As one Sherpa says here, “We Sherpa people have a great respect for the mountain. We call Everest 'Chomolungma'. She's the mother god of the earth.” Discovery Channel debuted SHERPA on Saturday, April 23 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
