Element Awareness Camp offers underserved Los Angeles youth the opportunity to go into the wilderness for a week. Though they’re drawn by skateboarding, the boys are also taught to build fires and shelters, and paddle a boat—skills that few of them have learned before. Though the camp takes nearly all these campers are out of their comfort zone, the interviews at the end of this film prove how much they truly value the experience.
